Gwijo Squad attends their second Pink Day

The cricket match usually played at Wanderers Stadium, commonly known as Pink Day, has become a great one to be part of, with seats sold out weeks before the first ball is bowled. On Sunday 9 February 2020, Gwijo Squad attended their second Pink Day and sat in their favourite section, Unity Stand.

Pink shorts… Check.
Pink t-shirt… Check.
Pink cap…. Check.
Even the odd pink tutus was spotted around the crowd in the stands.

The vibe was electric from the get-go. The Gwijo Squad members trickled in and by noon our section was filled with beautiful faces, and our voices were warmed-up for the afternoon’s play.

Fighting the fight

Gwijo Squad did not for one second forget what the cause was all about – awareness of breast cancer and that the fight continues.

The support is always unbelievable

The number of people who meet us at the stadium, who hear us on the television, are always grade 10 supporters. Their words of encouragement are what keeps us focussed and willing to go that extra kilometre. And Pink Day was no different with the amount of support we received.

Pink Day at the Bullring is truly a special day, with the supporters getting behind the Proteas, in pink, and cheering them on.
Well done to England on the win, it was pretty close towards the last couple of overs.

Gwijo Squad raises their voice at Wanderers Stadium

Saturday 25 January 2020 was the 2nd day of the 4th Test where the Proteas were looking to level the series against England at Wanderers Stadium, in Johannesburg. And Gwijo Squad was there to make sure their voice was there to support the national cricket team.
The day began with a bit of rain over most of Joburg but it soon cleared up and play commenced with England at 192-4.

The arrival

The Gwijo Squad absolutely love supporting the national cricket team, and this particular Saturday at the Bullring wouldn’t be any different for the supporters club.
The day has been in the Gwijo Squad calendar for more than three months and the day had arrived.
The Squad started arriving just before lunch and gathered at their section – Unity Stands Upper Level.

The first gwijo of the day was a greeting as well as a quick warm-up of the voices and of course, making an announcement to the rest of the stadium that we had arrived… We were present… And we were fully behind the Proteas no matter what the situation was on the field.

The support

Next stop: Pink Day

What an incredible day. It was the first appearance for 2020 by the Gwijo Squad and it went down swimmingly.
The members got to Wanderers Stadium, greeted each other at the stands and made sure that they were heard.
It’s good to be back together as a family. It sure does feel good.
We can’t wait until our next outing at the Momentum ODI (more commonly known as Pink Day) to erupt the stands again with our voices and be a supportive family to the Proteas.

Pink is the new green and gold

The Wanderers Stadium will be painted pink on Sunday 9 February as South Africa host England for the popular annual Momentum One-Day International fixture.
What would a season of cricket be without the annual Pink Day at the Bullring? We didn’t want to find out so we will be heading to Wanderers to face the Barmy Army.
